Book Cover – Design Tips for a More Attractive Appeal
Regardless if your prospects are scouring the bookstore or searching online, the book cover will always be the first thing they’ll see. With this being said, it is critical to make the cover or layout look attractive and appealing as it can be. Here are some of the tips that can be of help in drafting your design and sell more than your target.
Number 1. Consider your readers and audience – there is a big difference in the book’s appearance depending on who you are targeting with. Having said that, you have to think of checking out bookstores as this can help you in learning what is the most appealing design for your target audience. For instance, you may notice that books intended for entrepreneurs are often paperbacks in 5.5″ x 8.5″ size with red and yellow as its predominant colors and with average of 150 pages.
Books for corporate executives on the other hand are hard bound in full 6″ x 9″ size with gray and blue paper covers and at the same time, average of 200 pages or maybe more.
Number 2. Front cover should shout greatness – when browsing online, the very first thing that you will notice is the front cover of the book. Knowing about this, apply this to the people who are doing the same thing and searching for books like yours. As much as possible, you want to use attractive photo or a catchy and large title; ideally do both to get their attention.
The title needs to grab their attention and the subtitle should give them a thorough detail. For this reason, while the title isn’t necessarily carrying the key concept of the book, it should appear either in subtitle or in the title. With this, you might want to use a memorable and catchy title that catches their curiosity. Then again, it will be nice to give it a more thorough explanation in your subtitle.
Whether you have opted to use photo for the book cover or not, it would be determined by your fame and purpose. If you are well known in the field and that your readers can recognize you, then it will be nice to use photo.
Number 3. Don’t forget the back cover – the back cover needs to have a good headline which is followed by a brief synopsis of your book that must no longer than 200 words. You can follow it with endorsements and testimonials for the book. When you use different sources that your target market recognizes and identifies, it will help a lot in boosting the sales of your book.
Always follow these tips and you will be on the right path.
